Disappointed diners have bid au revoir to a French restaurant which has closed after nearly a decade .Scena Bistro, in Rodney Road, Cheltenham.
will be replaced by a Swedish eatery, which is due to open
at the end of the month. Christophe Poirier opened Scena Bistro nine years ago. With a different dish from each region of France each month, food lovers could chose from Normandy sausages to mussels.
Christophe and his wife Juliana going back to France to set up a guest house. He said: "I've enjoyed my time in Cheltenham and will miss my customers but I wanted to move on to a new challenge in the sun." The popular Frenchman will be updating customers on his new venture via a blog.
Hugh Dunsmare-Hardy, 60, of Montpellier said: "I've been to Scena Bistro with my partner on a monthly basis for the last three years and we were very disappointed he's going. "We holiday in France on a regular basis and when he is established we'll look him up." The Rodney Road premises are being given a rustic Swedish makeover and will open as Svea Cafe and Restaurant on October 22. It has been bought by Birgitta Sanger-Davies, who used to work in the office at the White Hart Inn in Winchcombe
